Small, mammoth ivory buttons appear in Solutrean sites in southwestern France.
These minute objects reflect the delicate and sophisticated systems, for closing clothes made from thin animal skins.
During the very harsh conditions of the last glaciation, clothing is indispensable for both comfort and protection, and plays an essential role in the lives of Solutrean hunter-gatherers.
